Oppose the Chinatown Mega-Jail!
On Wednesday, November 29th, Eric Adams is hosting a design workshop for the Chinatown mega-jail. The workshop makes it seem like the Mayor cares about Chinatown, when in reality we know that if he really did, there would be no new jail! No amount of whitewashing a jail through art/design lingo and “creative solutions” will gloss over the fact that the demolition of the previous jail has already displaced several businesses and that the new jail, if built, will be the tallest jail in America and tower over Chinatown, at a cost of nearly $3 billion, all of which could be used instead to fund the recovery of Chinatown! As members of a community fighting against displacement, we REFUSE to participate in this charade and help the Mayor design Chinatown’s destruction. Please join us instead outside the town hall at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, November 29th, at 25 Mott Street as we flyer to build a larger anti-jail coalition; EMAIL the mayor using the link in our bio which takes you to the contact page; and join us on the picket line in front of the Museum of Chinese in America—which is profiting from the megajail construction with a new building— 11am-2pm Thursday-Sundays.
